Q: About Cyprus Ultra Marathon

A: Created in 2012, Cyprus Ultra Marathon became the first official international ultra marathon of its kind in Cyprus (ultra marathon is a term associated with distances over the standard 42.2 km Marathon race). Since 2012 we have successfully completed eight Cyprus Ultra Marathon events and gained worldwide attention for our truly one of a kind 217 km Limassol mountain trail running race in the very challenging Cyprus heat. The race takes over 2 days for the runners to complete and with no sleep! Only 11 runners have so far completed this race. This is the world's toughest ultra marathon at this distance (217 km, 135 miles) due to the total elevation gain of around 7000 meters and the extreme Cyprus heat conditions.

A: Our social media marketing and website traffic reaches many thousands of viewers from a global audience fascinated by such a unique event in Cyprus. We have gained worldwide notoriety with our extreme 217 km race in the beautiful Limassol mountains of Cyprus, located in the wonderful traditional Cypriot village of Vasa Kellakiou. Our event attracts runners from all over the world, especially the U.K., Europe, Russia and even as far as the USA and Australia. Cyprus Ultra is for all runners, we also have race distances of 10 km, 21 km (half marathon), 50 km ultra marathon and of course our 217 km Cyprus Ultra Marathon. Something new for Cyprus Ultra 9, we will introduce our first Cyprus Ultra kids race around a beautiful new running track adjacent to the start finish line of the 217 km race, this introduces a new audience of local affluent parents from across Cyprus. Cyprus Ultra Marathon is a very green event that cares deeply about the environment, we are a no trace race (we leave nature as we found it). Together with our marketing and yours, we will make this event a must do international ultra marathon for all runners in Cyprus and around the world.

Q: What is the money used for?

​A: We require a fully equipped ambulance and doctors to remain at the start/finish area for the duration of the event, 46 hours, we also require professional nurses at each of the seven 24 hour aid stations around the 21 km course loop. We need money for the medals and t-shirts, aid station foods and drinks and we need special contractors for the aid stations set up around the course. The cost of maintaining our impeccable safety record keeping all runners safe, operating in such an extreme location in the heat in the Cyprus mountains is considerably more than what we are seeking in sponsorship, we make up the difference through participants' race entry fees.
