November Newsletter Update: Universal Life Cyprus Ultra Marathon, January 16th 2016.
Race start time is confirmed for all races as Saturday 10 a.m., January 16th 2016. Vasa Kellakiou village, Limassol. Race option 1. 7 km trail race. Cut off time 90 minutes. A beautiful route with one big hill and a fast (fairly flat) finish. This race is suitable for everyone with a basic level of running/walking fitness. An amazing experience as you will be starting alongside the 217 km international ultra runners. Everyone welcome, walk it or run it! Race option 2. 21 km trail half marathon. Cut off time 4 hours. Breathtaking mountain scenery and sea views from the highest point of the course. Total elevation gain approx 3000 feet. A challenging trail half marathon suitable for anyone with long distance running experience. If you are looking for the ultimate half marathon challenge, this is it. Race option 3. 50 km trail ultra marathon. Cut off time 10 hours. Same breathtaking mountain scenery as the 21 km race, you will be repeating the course twice with an extra 8 km loop at the end. Total elevation gain approx 6200 feet. A highly challenging ultra marathon suitable for anyone with long distance trail running experience, or 42 km Marathon Runner ready to make the leap to official Ultra Runner! Race option 4. 217 km (135 mile) trail ultra marathon. Cut off time 45 hours. A rare opportunity to complete one of the world's toughest 217 km trail races but without the extreme Cyprus summer heat. Temperatures in January typically 12C to 17C, but 24C has also be known during this week. If the sky is clear the sun will feel very hot, if we have cloud cover and no sun, you will need to consider carefully your layers of technical clothing. You must also allow for the possibility of rain. At night the temperatures will feel much cooler, although unlikely to drop below 7 C, you will need to plan appropriately for technical layers and always the possibility of rain. Yes the cooler weather will make a finish more achievable, but do not think it will be easy. Approx 30'200 feet of elevation gain on trails will never be easy. All registered runners MUST attend the pre race briefing Friday 15th January 4 p.m. Location is the same as race start, village of Vasa Kellakiou, Limassol. More details will follow on how to find the event. RACE REGISTRATIONS CLOSES NOVEMBER 31st 2015. Be part of the greatest running challenge in Cyprus. Click here and see you at the start line!
